the scariest thing I've heard in a long time:

""Very exciting, very exciting for the American people, because now we can get things done without explaining process," Pelosi told CNN's Candy Crowley."

I guess we, the American People, don't need explanations of what our leaders are doing...just accept it without question.

and I find it amusing that, even though I'm totally sick of it, every post on my friends page is about...

SNOW!

Well, at least yesterday, DH and I went out geocaching with the girls. Totally fun! I love that hobby, even the frustrating parts of it. :) I also won an auction for a new geocoin last night that I think will be my FTF prize in my first hidden cache. Maybe. Or it might be my personal dipping coin. Not sure yet. :) Its coming from Australia, which is pretty cool! If I like it too much to give up, I'll keep it.

Today, we received a package from the local school district to sign up NJ for kindergarten. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it, because right now I'm just re-angered at the amount of privacy-invading crap they "require" to enroll a child in school. The deed to my house? Which I have to pay to get a copy of? No, sorry. My kids genitalia must be examined by a doctor? (and btw: if she was a he, they'd do that *IN SCHOOL* for him...how nice). And WTF is the reason for having a dental exam? What communicable disease could be spread by bad teeth, may I ask? And don't even get me started on the vaccines...at least we still have the religious exemption option there.

But no, I understand that in our "liberal" society, we must ALL go through this pain, inconvenience, and expense so that "we" don't treat anyone "differently" because they come from a family that doesn't take care of their teeth..because if we can save just one child from cavities, then its worth it to waste millions of dollars on un-necessary doctor and dentist visits to prevent singling that child out in class! *sigh*

Anyway, I guess this at least put the deadline on figuring out what we need to do with NJ in the fall.

I find it ironic that the people who boo and throw shoes at President George W Bush don't appreciate the fact that he worked to defend the country that allows them to do or say those things without being killed or having their wives raped to death.

I also find it ironic that now that the man who is supposed to bring us all together is officially "my" President, I feel more terrified to voice my opinion or be white than I ever have before. Every "prayer" or wish I've read has made me feel like anyone who sees me on the street must think I'm a black-hater because, well, I'm white and didn't vote for the black guy. Maybe that's what its like to be black and feel like every white person hates you...even when they don't. Huh.

I am glad its over.

I am glad we have a "black" president. I hope this means we can now move away from being accused of racism.

I am worried that his "distribution of wealth" might mean a big change in our lifestyle, in that my own income will fall into his "wealthy" category, and our taxes will get to the point where I cannot support my family on my income alone any more. I hope this is wrong.

I hope all the predictions about terrorists "testing the mettle of this man" are wrong.

The American people voted for "Hope", and I do Hope a lot of things today.

This must be read by every Democrat in America. I'm helping the cause. Link to original source is at the end. Here's the important content:

The truth is, there are more good reasons to defeat Obama and the Obamacrats than to elect him, even for the staunchest of Democrats.
For those who actually think Barack Obama is qualified to be President, no amount of truth, logic or reason is going to change their minds. To do so means having to admit they were taken in and made fools of, and as any cop will tell you, most con men get away with their con because their marks are so embarrassed to admit they were taken they just keep quiet.
Obama is simply unfit to be President in any way. Whether it was his serial lying about his relationship with Jeremiah Wright and what he knew and when he knew it, and the fact that he was more than willing to tolerate Wright's views of 911, and his views on race and never felt offended enough to walk out, to his lying to the people of Ohio about NAFTA and his other reversals and broken pledges on everything from public financing of campaigns to FISA, he is simply not someone you want to take home to the White House.
Aside from his dishonesty, clinical narcissism and almost pathological lack of conscience, he has no ability to do the job he is seeking and has never in his life ever exhibited even the smallest evidence that he could do it. On the basis of integrity, there is nothing to consider. Obama has no integrity and as far as we can see from his past, never did.
McCain on the other hand, though one can disagree with some of his policies, has in fact demonstrated that he is willing to stand up for what he believes, and more importantly, stand up to Republicans […] Like it or not, the record shows McCain is the real reformer and the real deal, while Obama is what most of the 18 million Democrats who voted against him know him to be — a snake oil salesman who has managed to bamboozle a lot of dumb, and impressionable people […] especially the dumb media blonds like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and almost everyone at Newsweek, the NY times and CNN who he has eating out of hand.
The other thing to keep in mind about McCain is that he is rated last by conservative groups in supporting conservative legislation. His voting record is ranked 49th among Republican Senators by conservative watch dog groups which is why a lot of conservatives cant stand him. In other words, disaffected liberal Democrats who cant possibly in good conscience vote for Obama could do a lot worse than bringing McCain home to mother.
How absurd is the idea of Obama as President? Think about Obama being put in charge of the country's nuclear codes.

Ok, I'm taking a big breath right now before posting this, because I know that some people reading this might not agree with my political views. I'm really hoping this doesn't spark any arguments, only intelligent discussions...or just read it and don't respond. :D

However, I am posting it because I really feel strongly about this issue, and I also feel that the "main-stream media" is ignoring some big issues. I want to make sure that at least my circle of friends knows this.

Most of you know that my political views are Centrist, or maybe Libertarian sometimes. But here, I only really get a "choice" of two views. This year, the choice seems to be between a middle-road Conservative, or a Left-wing extremist Liberal. This website shows why I believe he is Extreme.
Here are his exact words taken from the Senate Floor transcript:
"whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constituion, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitle to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a -- a child, a nine-month-old -- child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it -- it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute."

To paraphrase this as I understand it: he doesn't want to pass this law because it would mean that they are passing an anti-abortion law.
That he feels this statute equates fetuses in the womb with living, breathing children born as a result of a failed abortion as the same thing. (I also do, but that's not the point).
That someone the same age, or older, than a friend of mine when HE was born, is NOT a viable life (ie: "previable"), even if they are breathing on their own outside the womb...simply because they were born as a result of someone trying to abort them.
(Adding something for clarity: let's say for a moment we're talking about a 2yr old child. The child's father shot him. The child is brought to the ER, not likely to live, but still breathing, still has brain activity, still has a beating heart. Obama is saying that because this child is not likely to live without medical intervention, and because his parents were the ones who tried to kill him, we should let him die on a shelf in the hospital, because to NOT do so would mean we think he is a living being with a right to live. Ok, so that's slightly stretching it because most people agree that a 2yr old child IS a living being...so why, what is the destintion, between that 2yr old and the 1-minute old baby?)

EDIT:
One person asked in my comments "But it also begs the question as to whether or not the government, the medical establishment or whatever else has the right to force a woman to remain pregnant when she does not want to be. "

This is exactly what I'm trying to say here, that I believe that getting to this point from the proposed legislation is an impossible leap. Obama made the same leap, and I don't see how.

Point A: KILLING LIVE BABIES IS BAD

Point B: TELLING WOMEN THEY CAN'T HAVE ABORTIONS IS BAD

Tell me how you get from A to B without great leaps of faith and unconnected logic?

Hi LJ friends!

I am hoping you all can help me. I am troubled about something, and my Google-foo is weak today. I heard a radio ad yesterday that claimed that McCain/Palin are "going to make abortion illegal".

Could someone please point to a statement where they actually said that?

NOT that they believe abortion "should be" illegal, but where they said they _are going to make it illegal_. There is a HUGE difference there.

And, since we're on the topic )and I do happen to agree with McCain and Palin in their beliefs)...if you do NOT agree with them, can you please give me a compelling reason why it should be legal to kill a human being just because they are in utero? I'm really trying to be open-minded here. Keep in mind that these 3 reasons are already agreed upon as valid reasons, by myself and McCain and Palin:
1) the pregnancy was a result of rape
2) the pregnancy was a result of insest
3) the life of the mother is threatened by the continuation of the pregnancy

So, is there any other reason I'm missing?

So, as I posted before, I'm not defending or changing anyone's views...I'm just going to write about what I feel here. Read or not, your choice. :)

Anyway, I wanted to celebrate my thrills that Mr. McCain included Charter schools in his "parents will have a choice!" list in his speech last night.

If he'll protect my kids' right to attend charter schools, he's got my vote! :) (not that he didn't already, but that pretty much solidifies it).

Also, his story of his experiences as a POW made me shiver. Amazing. Scary. I'm so glad he stated that he hates war. This is good.

Yep, I'm pretty sure where my vote is going...and so far nothing has made me want to change my mind.

B) defend mine
C) make you defend yours either.

545 People.
545 People
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does

You and I don't control monetary policy, The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress.

In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority.

They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing.
I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall.

No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget.

He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes.

Who is the speaker of the House?

She is the leader of the majority party.

She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want.

If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ.

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation' or 'politics' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

I find this interesting. It is no surprise to me that my leanings are more on the Conservative side, but another poll I took had me strongly supporting Ron Paul, who falls way further down on this list.

So what the heck is that supposed to mean, I ask you?

73% John McCain
71% Mike Huckabee
60% Mitt Romney
58% Bill Richardson
54% Fred Thompson
52% Barack Obama
52% Mike Gravel
52% Hillary Clinton
52% John Edwards
51% Rudy Giuliani
49% Ron Paul
49% Chris Dodd
48% Tom Tancredo
47% Dennis Kucinich
40% Joe Biden
